MAMA (Mothers and Midwives Associated) was formed in 1998 by a group of mothers and midwives in Auckland to support the partnership between women/whanau and their midwives.

MAMA believes that pregnancy and birth are normal physiological processes and that women need to be empowered, supported and encouraged to trust their bodies and their instincts during this time of enormous growth and change. Pregnancy, labour and birth give women and their partners many opportunities to practice the skills that will make them responsive and confident parents.

MAMA provides information to women and their families to help them; understand what maternity services are available; to choose the most suitable LMC to support them through this special time; and to be active and informed decision-makers about their maternity care, their health and their parenting.

In 2008 MAMA,  the founding mamas  and midwives moved into new premises in the St Lukes area of Auckland and formed MAMA Inc. We invited other health service providers to join us in offering a range of services to pregnant women and their families.  In December 2014 all the MAMA services and practitioners moved to premises with better parking and accessibility at 13 Coyle Street,  Sandringham. There are now over 20 midwives working from the MAMA building as well as childbirth educators offering birth and Parenting Preparation classes, and practitioners offering pregnancy and postnatal yoga, massage (including baby massage classes), acupuncture, osteopathy, hypnobirthing as well as an online baby supplies shop (proceeds from shop sales help us to pay our rent and continue to provide services to Auckland mothers & fathers and their babies).

Services and products that are available at MAMA Inc. are described on this website.  Click here to see What’s on at MAMA Inc.
